During this time of uncertainty, we want all childhood cancer families to know you are in our thoughts at Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). Thank you for being part of the ALSF hero family community.
Lemonade Days is Moving to August
For the first time ever, Lemonade Daysis moving from June to August 1-9. While this was not an easy decision, the health and safety of our supporters, especially childhood cancer families like yours, is our first priority. While Lemonade Days usually commemorates Alex’s annual stand, August 1 is another meaningful date at ALSF, the anniversary of Alex’s passing. We hope you will join us in honoring Alex's legacy by hosting a stand this August.
ALSF is still supporting research efforts, but the COVID-19 pandemic has caused major setbacks for projects across the country. The need for research funding has never been greater.
Groups like The 5 Fighters Lemonade Stand know all about the need to support research. They epitomize what Lemonade Days is all about: family, community and coming together to make a difference. Their event in South Carolina started when five local families were affected by childhood cancer, and they chose to fight back. The kids -- Elliott, Peyton, Joshua, David and Jack -- wanted to give back just like Alex did. That is why they choose to make lemons into lemonade.
Pick your day (or days) to join together with family, friends, co-workers or classmates and make an impact for families that are in need.
If you’re looking for a fit-focused way to make an impact instead, registration for The Million Mile is now open! This September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, you can sign up to help collectively log one million miles of physical activity and raise one million dollars for kids with cancer. This virtual event is a fun way to stay active and connected with friends and family.
We know the difficulties that childhood cancer families are facing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Helping families like yours is a core part of our mission, and ALSF has expanded its programs for families in treatment to meet the unique needs of these uncertain times. ALSF is now offering:
Extended hotel stays so families can remain close to treatment to avoid travel on public transportation.
Grocery assistance for families.
Support for families traveling to their home hospital for standard treatment.
You can learn more about ALSF’s expanded services online. If you need assistance, ask your healthcare provider to submit an applicationand a member of our team will be in touch with you. Please contact FamilyServices@AlexsLemonade.org with any questions.
ALSF is committed to providing families facing a childhood cancer diagnosis with the best resources to face their situation. Brush Up on High-Priority Oral Hygiene Tips and Practices
Keeping your child’s mouth healthy is very important! One of ALSF’s business partners, pediatric dentists, Doc Bresler’s Cavity Busters, produced three educational videos on essential oral and dental healthcare, helpful to childhood cancer families. The videos include vital instructions, tips and guidelines for oral hygiene and dental practices for pre, during and post-cancer treatment. You can preview the first video below, and find all three on the ALSF website.
